3 Materials of a Walk-In Tub

There are various types of walk-in tubs so there are several different decisions to be made when finding the right one. One of the decisions that must be made is what material the tub should be made out of. Walk-in tubs can be made up of three different materials; acrylic, fiberglass, and a combination of the two. Understanding the differences between these types of tubs will allow you to find the right one for you. Here is some more information on the three different materials making up the Pat Boone walk-in bathtub.

Acrylic Tub

An acrylic walk-in tub is a more durable option when deciding on material. They are much more resistant to scratches, stains, and color fading. This durability and resistance to damage allows the tub to have a longer life expectancy than a fiberglass tub. If an acrylic tub does suffer any scratches, it’s much tougher to get them out than it would be with a fiberglass tub. The resistance this tub has to damage and the fact that it is longer-lasting than a fiberglass tub results in a more expensive price. But that price might be worth it considering the person using it will likely need to use it for years to come.

Fiberglass Tub

Despite not being as resistant to scratching, staining, and color fading, a fiberglass tub is still very strong and durable. However, it is more likely than an acrylic tub to suffer some damage. An advantage of getting a fiberglass tub is that those damages are easier to fix. A problem that could occur with a fiberglass tub that is unlikely to occur with an acrylic tub is spider cracks. This is a crack that spreads out in different directions. Given that this tub isn’t quite as strong as an acrylic tub and is not as long-lasting, it usually costs less. That makes it a good choice for someone that’s concerned about their budget.

Combination

A third option is a combination of acrylic and fiberglass tubs. These tubs are made out of fiberglass but feature an acrylic coat. They won’t be as resistant to scratches, stains, or color fading as a full acrylic tub but won’t be as vulnerable to this type of damage as a fiberglass tub.

The material that a walk-in tub is made of will determine how vulnerable it is to damage and how long it will last. These are the three materials that typically make up a Pat Boone walk-in bathtub.
